You have now examined the biblical evidence concerning the Son of God. We have seen that Jesus is not a mere human prophet, nor is He a metaphorical title. He is the literal, begotten Son of the Father, possessing the divine nature by inheritance, equal with God in nature, yet subject to the Father as the Source. We have seen that this literal Sonship is the very foundation of His ability to be our High Priest, to be tempted, to truly die, and to impart His own divine life to us.

Lesson Question Answer in brief
19 What did Jesus call Himself? The Son of God.
20 How is He the Son? Begotten of the Father before creation, not created.
21 Is He equal with God? Equal in nature, and the Father is the source and head.
22 In what ways is He called Son? In heaven, through Mary, from the dead; the Father gives life each time.
23 Which Messiah? The Christ, the literal Son of the living God.
24 Which Jesus did Paul preach? The Son of God, Lord by whom all things were made.
25 What died? The Son died. The Father raised Him.
What the module established
  1. The phrase "God the Son" is never found in Scripture; the Bible consistently uses "Son of God."
  2. The Son's equality with God is based on His literal begetting—He inherits the Father's divine nature, just as a human child inherits the nature of their parent.
  3. The Son's subjection to the Father does not diminish His divinity; it establishes the Father as the ultimate Source of all things.
  4. If the Son's sonship is a metaphor, the temptation in the wilderness, the agony of the cross, and the mechanism of "Christ in you" all collapse into a theatrical performance.
  5. The gospel depends on a literal Father giving a literal Son, and that Son truly dying and being raised by the Father's power.
A question to leave you with

If the Son is divine, begotten, and equal, how do we read the verses that seem to say He is God without qualification? That is the question for Module 6.
