From 538 to the Second Coming, in the Pioneers' Own Words

What is this investigation about?

Most of us know the dates as separate stones: 538, 1798, 1844 and 1888. We know the doctrines the same way. What we are rarely shown is the road that connects them, and the people who walked it first.

At every waymark this book lets the pioneers speak for themselves — Miller, Bates, James and Ellen White, Andrews, Smith, Waggoner and Jones. Wherever possible the author, publication and date appear beside each quotation so you can check the words yourself. Each chapter ends with a Waymark Summary and questions for reflection.

What will you examine?

  • The 1,260 years, the Reformation, and 1798
  • 1844: the disappointment, the sanctuary, the three angels
  • How the Sabbath, state of the dead, prophecy, organisation and health reform came through Bible study
  • What the pioneers published about God and Christ, set beside later statements
  • 1888, the Loud Cry, and a dated record from 1888 to the present

What kinds of sources does it use?

  • Dated pioneer quotations with author and publication

Descriptions summarise the author's argument as presented in the book. Readers are encouraged to check the cited sources and weigh the conclusions themselves.
